With opportunities for internships, play-calling games at Pacific varsity games and marketing jobs at nearby Nike, adidas and Columbia, sports communication is a major that positions students for life-long careers in the sports industry. Earning a bachelor of arts (BA) in sports communication at Pacific University will give you the knowledge and skills to be an effective leader in the dynamic world of sports information, media production, or broadcasting and provide you with many opportunities to work in a sports-related field.

What is Sports Communication?
Sports communication is a wide and expanding field that includes sports writers, apparel marketers and Sports Information Officers. It is broadcast announcers who call games for the Portland Timbers and it is the person who sits as an anchor for ESPN. With classes in journalism, marketing and media law, sports communication transforms a student’s passion and interest in sports into career skills.
When complemented with other majors and minors at Pacific, like sports leadership and management, business marketing, and data science, you will be able to develop a set of skills and knowledge that will prepare you to be the MVP in any number of sports-related environments.

Chelsey Chamberlain is assistant director of athletic communications for Louisiana State University, where she serves as a media relations contact, manages social media campaigns and coordinates game-day broadcasts for LSU's highly-ranked softball program. She launched her career at Pacific as an assistant sports information director and assistant softball coach, then went on to the University of New Mexico, where she was recognized with the College Sports Information Directors of Americas' "rising star" award.
